Sunflower Carbon Storage
The Sunflower Carbon Capture and Storage Project, developed by ExxonMobil Low Carbon Solutions Onshore Storage, LLC, is located in Jefferson County, Texas. The project proposes the construction and operation of four injection wells to permanently store CO₂ captured from regional industrial sources. Site selection was driven by favorable geology, existing pipeline infrastructure, and proximity to large-scale emitters along the Gulf Coast. A stratigraphic appraisal well drilled in late 2023 provided key geologic, petrophysical, and hydrogeologic data, confirming the suitability of deep porous sandstones as the primary injection zones. The Sunflower Project scope includes: • Approximately 25,000 acres of permanent underground storage location in eastern Liberty County and western Jefferson County. • An 11-mile pipeline extension to connect the storage site with the ExxonMobil pipeline network
