Trudvang
The Trudvang CCS initiative is a collaborative carbon storage project situated in the Norwegian North Sea, east of the Sleipner area, utilizing the proven Utsira saline aquifer. The storage license (EXL 007) was awarded in September 2023 to a trio of partners: Sval Energi, Storegga Norge, and Vår Energi. Since then, Vår Energi has taken over operational control and increased its ownership share to 40%, with INPEX Idemitsu Norge (30%) and Storegga Norge (30%) rounding out the partnership. The collective brings strong financial backing, deep expertise in CO₂ storage and injection, extensive offshore project delivery experience, and an agile, decisive organizational approach. Planning is currently underway through pre-FEED (Front-End Engineering and Design) studies to define the optimal value chain for capturing and transporting CO₂—either via ship or pipeline—from European industrial emitters to Norway for storage. The project aims to begin CO₂ injection by 2029, targeting a storage rate of approximately 8 to 10 million tonnes per annum, with the potential to cumulatively handle over 200 million tonnes over 25 years. Strategically positioned and leveraging decades of geological data from the nearby Sleipner facility, the Trudvang project is poised to become a central CO₂ storage hub for Europe—strengthening decarbonization efforts across the region.
