Enbridge
Wabamun Hub
The Wabamun Carbon Hub, developed by Enbridge west and north of Edmonton, Alberta, is intended to provide industrial-scale CO₂ transportation and storage as an open-access utility. It supports nearby major emitters, notably Heidelberg Materials’ cement capture facility and Capital Power’s Genesee CCS project—together aiming to avoid up to 4 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually. Enbridge secured evaluation rights in 2022 over approximately 220,000 hectares covering two deep saline formations—the Basal Sandstone Unit (2,300–3,300 m) and the Nisku Formation (1,550–2,200 m)—and has since drilled two test wells (spring 2023 and late 2023/early 2024) to assess geological suitability
