West Bay
The West Bay Storage Facility, developed by BP Carbon Solutions LLC, is a CO₂ storage project located in Galveston County, Texas, along the U.S. Gulf Coast. The project will permanently store captured CO₂ in the Fleming Group (Lower Miocene) formations, supported by thick confining layers within the same group and overlain by the Goliad and Beaumont Formations. BP drilled the Nonagon #1 appraisal well in August 2022, which provided core, fluid, and seismic data used to characterize the injection and confining zones and confirm the site’s suitability. The project is planned as a three-injection-well development, forming a long-term hub for CO₂ sequestration in the Gulf Coast region and representing a key element of BP’s broader U.S. carbon capture and storage strategy
