Yates Field Unit
The Yates Field Unit is a large historic oil field located in Pecos and Crockett Counties, Texas, along the eastern margin of the Delaware Basin in the Permian Basin. Discovered in 1926, Yates is one of the most prolific carbonate reservoirs in West Texas, producing primarily from Permian-age San Andres Formation carbonates characterized by dolomitized shelf-margin deposits with significant natural fracturing and karst-enhanced porosity. After extensive primary production driven by solution gas expansion and gravity drainage, followed by waterflooding, portions of the field were redeveloped using tertiary recovery methods including CO₂ injection to enhance recovery from remaining oil zones and residual oil zones (ROZ). The field’s large structural closure, extensive historical data, and high permeability carbonate intervals make it suitable for miscible CO₂ flooding and long-term CO₂ storage. CO₂ supply is integrated into the regional Permian CO₂ pipeline network delivering natural CO₂ to multiple San Andres carbonate EOR projects.
