Renewable Gasfield

The Renewable Gasfield project in Gabersdorf, Austria, operated by Energie Steiermark, is a pioneering Power-to-Gas demonstration that converts green hydrogen from a 6,000 m² PV-powered PEM electrolyzer and industrial CO₂ into synthetic methane via catalytic methanation. The resulting renewable gas is injected into the regional grid, enabling circular carbon utilization, reducing CO₂ emissions by approximately 5,200 t/year, and supporting Austria’s emerging hydrogen and green-gas infrastructure while integrating local industrial CO₂ sources such as StyriaFert.
