Central City

Green Plains Inc. is advancing a commercial carbon capture and sequestration initiative at its Central City ethanol facility in Nebraska that captures biogenic CO₂ from fermentation and sends it for permanent geological storage. The captured CO₂ is transported and stored by Tallgrass Energy through its Trailblazer CO₂ pipeline network to dedicated storage formations in Wyoming, where it is injected and sequestered underground. This project marks a key milestone in Green Plains’ Advantage Nebraska strategy to decarbonize ethanol production, lower carbon intensity scores, and participate in emerging low-carbon fuel markets. CO₂ capture at Central City, combined with Tallgrass’s transport and storage infrastructure, enables permanent removal of industrial emissions and supports large-scale CCS deployment across the Midwest ethanol sector.
