CSBP Fertilisers Kwinana Carbon Capture Project
The CSBP Fertilisers Kwinana Carbon Capture Project is an industrial carbon capture and storage initiative being developed by Wesfarmers Chemicals, Energy & Fertilisers (WesCEF) in partnership with Mitsui E&P Australia (MEPAU) as part of the broader Cygnus CCS Hub in Western Australia. The project focuses on capturing high-purity CO₂ emissions from ammonia production at the CSBP fertiliser facility in Kwinana and transporting the captured CO₂ for permanent geological storage in depleted gas reservoirs within the Perth Basin. The ammonia facility represents a key anchor source for the Cygnus Hub due to its concentrated process emissions, enabling relatively efficient capture and integration into a regional multi-user CCS network alongside emissions from the Waitsia gas plant. Development activities are currently focused on feasibility studies, subsurface appraisal, and engineering design to establish an integrated capture, transport, and storage value chain aimed at reducing industrial emissions and enabling future low-carbon ammonia production in Western Australia.
