IFESTOS

The IFESTOS carbon capture project is being developed by TITAN Cement at its Kamari cement plant near Athens, Greece to retrofit large-scale CO₂ capture onto existing kiln operations. The project uses a hybrid capture configuration that combines oxyfuel combustion with post-combustion cryogenic capture, enriching exhaust gas to over 70% CO₂ and enabling very high separation efficiency. The system is designed to capture up to 98.5% of the plant’s CO₂ emissions, avoiding more than 1.9 million tonnes of CO₂ per year. Captured CO₂ will be compressed, liquefied, and transported by ship to permanent geological storage sites in the Mediterranean region. The project received €234 million in EU Innovation Fund support, reached financial close in 2026, began development activities in 2024, and targets commercial operation by the end of 2029.
