INPEX Kashiwazaki Hydrogen Park

The Kashiwazaki Hydrogen Park is an integrated blue hydrogen and ammonia production and utilization demonstration project at INPEX Corporation's Higashi-Kashiwazaki Gas Field in the Hirai District of Kashiwazaki City, Niigata Prefecture, Japan, described by INPEX as Japan's first project to integrate the entire hydrogen and ammonia value chain from production through utilization Natural gas feedstock is sourced from INPEX's Minami-Nagaoka Gas Field in the same prefecture, and the completed complex integrates a blue hydrogen and ammonia demonstration plant, a natural gas gathering station, and a hydrogen-fired power generation unit. Nameplate annual production capacity is 700 tonnes of hydrogen per year, with a portion converted into ammonia (using low-temperature, low-pressure synthesis technology developed by Tsubame BHB) and supplied for fertilizer and other uses within Niigata Prefecture. Hydrogen production uses autothermal reforming (ATR) technology supplied by Air Liquide Global E&C Solutions, and CO₂ generated as a by-product is separated and captured using HiPACT® high-pressure regenerative CO₂ capture technology jointly developed by JGC Global Co., Ltd. and BASF. EPC responsibilities are split between Daiichi Jitsugyo (design, equipment procurement, construction, and commissioning of the overall surface plant facilities) and JGC Corporation (hydrogen production equipment, CO₂ separation and recovery equipment, and underground injection equipment).
