Motor Oil Hellas
IRIS CCUS Project
The IRIS project at Motor Oil’s Agioi Theodoroi refinery in Greece will apply carbon capture to the Steam Methane Reformer, enabling uninterrupted hydrogen and steam production while capturing over 95% of CO₂ emissions. Expected to avoid 8.6 Mt CO₂ in its first decade, the project will store most CO₂ in offshore formations in the North Aegean and use some to produce 10,000 t/y of synthetic methanol. It will supply ultra-low emission hydrogen for refinery use, transport, and blending into the gas grid, cutting refinery GHG emissions by 89%.
