Lula CCS

Petrobras operates the world’s largest offshore CCUS project at the Lula and broader Santos Basin pre-salt oil fields, capturing CO₂ separated from high-CO₂ natural gas production streams and reinjecting it into deep offshore reservoirs for enhanced oil recovery and permanent geological storage. The system uses polymeric membrane CO₂ separation, offshore compression, and subsea reinjection infrastructure integrated across Petrobras’ FPSO fleet . The project has been operational since 2010, marking the first large-scale CCUS deployment in ultra-deepwater offshore conditions. By 2022, Petrobras had re-injected more than 40.8 million tonnes of CO₂ cumulatively, with annual injection rates exceeding 10 million tonnes per year
