1PointFive
Stratos
1PointFive is constructing its first Direct Air Capture (DAC) facility, known as STRATOS, in Ector County, Texas. The plant will use Carbon Engineering’s DAC technology to capture CO₂ directly from the atmosphere, compress it, and then either securely store it underground in saline formations or use it to produce low-carbon products, with storage under an EPA-approved Class VI sequestration program once permits are in place. When fully operational, STRATOS is designed to capture up to ~500,000 metric tons of CO₂ per year, making it one of the largest DAC plants in the world, with potential expansion toward ~1 million tons per year in future phases. The project’s development has progressed to permitting and start-up activities, with commercial operations expected in 2025 following the issuance of CO₂ sequestration permits from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
