Tangguh LNG CCS
Tangguh LNG in West Papua, Indonesia is the site of the Tangguh Enhanced Gas Recovery (EGR) Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) project, a large-scale integrated gas development designed to capture reservoir CO₂ and reinject it into the producing Vorwata gas field for permanent storage while increasing natural gas recovery. Led by bp and partners, the project combines development of the Ubadari gas field with carbon capture infrastructure including compression, pipelines, and offshore injection facilities. The initial phase targets sequestration of approximately 15 million tonnes of CO₂, with total storage potential estimated at 25–30 million tonnes over 10–15 years and possible expansion into a broader regional CCS hub. Final investment decision was announced in 2024, with startup expected around 2028, making it Indonesia’s first large-scale CCUS deployment and one of the few global examples of CCUS integrated directly into LNG production via enhanced gas recovery.
