Tri-State Energy Hub Power Plant Carbon Capture Project

Tenaska is developing the “Tri-State Energy Hub,” a large-scale natural gas power and carbon capture project centered in Jefferson County, Ohio. Announced in May 2026, the project includes a proposed 1,700 MW combined-cycle natural gas power plant in Saline Township that could supply electricity to approximately 1.7 million homes. The development builds on Tenaska’s broader carbon capture and storage (CCS) strategy in the Ohio-West Virginia-Pennsylvania tri-state region, where the company has already submitted applications for 30 CO₂ injection wells intended to create a regional CCS hub. Construction is expected to begin no earlier than 2028, with phased operations targeted for 2032–2033, pending permitting and regulatory approvals.
