Tenaska
Buckeye 1
Tri-State CCS Buckeye Project, developed by Tenaska Sequestration Services, LLC, is part of the larger Tri-State CCS Hub focusing on Ohio, with the underground storage component spanning Carroll, Jefferson, and Harrison Counties. The project is securing pore space rights from landowners to enable CO₂ storage underground while allowing normal surface land use and coexistence with oil and gas operations. The Buckeye segment will feature a significant network of wells—24 well sites in total, divided into 4 sites in Carroll County, 10 in Jefferson County, and 10 in Harrison County—distributed over a large area to optimize storage potential and access to emitters. To support site characterization, the project will also drill three stratigraphic test wells on a phased schedule: one in Hancock County, WV (Summer 2025), one in Harrison County, OH (Fall 2025), and one in Jefferson County, OH (Spring 2026). Each well will take approximately five months from site preparation through restoration, be used exclusively for geological characterization (no CO₂ injection), and will be plugged and monitored long term, with the potential to serve as monitoring wells if needed.
