Beargrass

The Beargrass Project is a proposed Class VI geologic carbon sequestration project developed by Vault 44.01 through its subsidiary Vault GSL CCS Holdings LP in Wabash County Indiana. The project is designed as a single well Class VI development, centered on Injection Well PNM INJ1, with supporting above confining zone, deep observation, and groundwater monitoring wells. Beargrass is intended to permanently store carbon dioxide captured from a nearby ethanol facility, with a planned injection rate of approximately 359,000 metric tons of CO2 per year over a 12 year operational life, resulting in a total anticipated storage volume of about 4.31 million metric tons of CO2. CO2 will be injected into the Cambrian Mount Simon Sandstone, a regionally extensive saline reservoir that has been used for deep injection and storage across the Midwest, with the Eau Claire Shale serving as the primary confining unit and additional secondary confining formations providing further isolation. The project site lies within the Arches Province of north central Indiana, an area with favorable reservoir thickness, permeability, and depth for long term CO2 storage. Extensive subsurface characterization, seismic interpretation, reservoir modeling, and area of review analysis were completed to support the Class VI permit application, including evaluation of plume migration and pressure response over injection and post injection periods. The Beargrass Project represents Vault 44.01’s strategy to develop standalone, ethanol linked carbon storage hubs in the Midwest using proven Illinois Basin and Arches Province geology.
