Louisiana Green Fuels Renewable Fuels Plant
Strategic Biofuels is developing the Louisiana Green Fuels (LGF) project, a biomass-to-low-carbon fuels and power facility located at the Port of Columbia in Caldwell Parish, Louisiana. The project converts sustainably sourced forestry waste into renewable energy products while integrating onsite carbon capture and geological sequestration to achieve deeply negative lifecycle emissions. Phase 1 consists of a 100 MW wood-fired biomass power plant designed to capture and permanently store roughly 1.1 million tonnes of CO₂ annually in nearby subsurface reservoirs, producing approximately 75 MW of dispatchable carbon-negative electricity for the grid. Future phases include a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) biorefinery leveraging the same infrastructure. The project uses biomass gasification and Fischer-Tropsch synthesis pathways and is supported by strategic partners and investments, with Class VI sequestration permitting underway and multiple state incentives and infrastructure upgrades secured.
