Bluebonnet
The Bluebonnet Sequestration Hub is a large-scale carbon capture and storage initiative located across approximately 55,000 acres spanning Chambers, Jefferson, and Liberty Counties in Texas. Developed by 1PointFive (a subsidiary of Oxy), the project aims to permanently store up to 8 million metric tons of CO₂ per year, with a total gross capacity reaching 1.2 billion metric tons. CO₂ will be captured from multiple industrial emitters and transported via a dedicated pipeline infrastructure, with injection planned into stacked saline formations in the Miocene and Frio reservoirs approximately 3,000 feet below potable water zones. Subsurface characterization, including stratigraphic well drilling and geological modeling has commenced, with Class VI permitting applications filed in 2023 and projected operational readiness by 2026. The project has also secured $36 million in DOE CarbonSAFE Phase III funding to support engineering, permitting, and design activities
